Herbert J. Block, a committed family man and dedicated businessman, died of colon cancer in May 1981. When the disease touched Mr. Block - an officer of Sun Television and Appliance, a vice president of the National Association of Television Merchandisers, and a benevolent supporter of the Charity Newsies - it also touched his family and friends.
Many family members of cancer victims feel helpless as a result of their loss of a loved one to cancer. Others are determined to create something positive and channel their energies toward eradicating this disease. The Block family is an example of a family working together to raise research dollars to promote a cure for cancer. Through their efforts, the Comprehensive Cancer Center - Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute at The Ohio State University is benefiting directly in the areas of cancer research and education.
