Nursing in 7 East James –
Medical Oncology/Orthopaedics/Neurosurgery
7 East is a 17-bed inpatient unit with primarily private patient rooms serving patients with solid tumors and bone cancer, neurosurgical patients being treated with blood/brain disruption chemotherapy, and complicated cardiac disorders requiring telemetry monitoring and IV cardiac medications. Also cared for in this unit are:
- Patients undergoing ambulatory surgery and requiring extended recovery, often overnight, before they are stable enough to return to their homes
- Patients who must be evaluated for up to 24 hours in order to determine the need for inpatient hospitalization
The nurses working on this unit are trained and educated to utilize invasive cardiopulmonary monitoring modalities and to administer cardiac drugs requiring continuous cardiac monitoring. The unit staff consists of registered nurses, patient care associates and unit clerical associates.
