Good Grief is led by a licensed art therapist and professional quilt artist. Children learn to understand the grieving process and how to cope with their loss through the use of the arts. They will learn to identify what grief feels like and how to get support and help when they need it as well as learn ways to honor their loved one throughout life.
Each child makes a Remembrance Quilt that is designed by the child and is composed of photocopied pictures, clothing, belongings and mementos that help to honor the memory of their loved one. After the child designs the quilt, the quilter applies her skills by putting the quilt together per the child’s directions. This heirloom quilt also continues to give comfort to the child. Some children sleep with it, others put it up on the wall of their bedroom and still others take it wherever they go.
This group meets Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 8 p.m. for six weeks. For more information or to register for Good Grief, send us an e-mail or call (614) 293-4138.
