The Genesis Cancer Unit is a dedicated cancer treatment unit located at Genesis-Good Samaritan Hospital that benefits from access to The James' training and treatment programs as well as its support services and tissue procurement program. The 15-bed unit stems from a partnership established in 2002 between The James and Genesis HealthCare System, which includes two hospital locations and 13 affiliated organizations in southeastern Ohio.

Genesis staff members receive education and training from The James in oncology care, chemotherapy and central line catheters. The cancer unit also offers a resource area for patients, family and staff members to access educational materials from The James, the National Cancer Institute and the American Cancer Society.

"The partnership reflects the two organizations' common commitment to bring the most advanced oncology services from large research institutions directly to smaller communities," says Carl G. Schowengerdt, MD, Medical Director of Inpatient Cancer Services at Genesis.
