What are some symptoms of Head and Neck Cancer?

Early symptoms of head and neck cancer include (but are not limited to):
  • A sore on the lip or in the mouth that does not heal
  • A lump on the lip or in the mouth or neck
  • A white (leukoplakia) or red patch on the gums, tongue or lining of the mouth
  • Unusual bleeding, pain or numbness in the mouth
  • A sore throat or a feeling that something is caught in the throat that does not go away
  • Difficulty or pain with chewing or swallowing
  • Swelling of the jaw that causes dentures to fit poorly or be uncomfortable
  • A change in voice or hoarseness
  • A lump on the face
  • Pain in the ear
  • Slurred speech
  • Loose teeth
  • Unintended weight loss

If you are concerned about an abnormality, it is important to go to an ear, nose, and throat specialist for a complete examination. If detected early, head and neck cancers are highly treatable and the cure rate is good.
