What are some symptoms of Head and Neck Cancer?
Early symptoms of head and neck cancer include (but are not limited to):
- A sore on the lip or in the mouth that does not heal
- A lump on the lip or in the mouth or neck
- A white (leukoplakia) or red patch on the gums, tongue or lining of the mouth
- Unusual bleeding, pain or numbness in the mouth
- A sore throat or a feeling that something is caught in the throat that does not go away
- Difficulty or pain with chewing or swallowing
- Swelling of the jaw that causes dentures to fit poorly or be uncomfortable
- A change in voice or hoarseness
- A lump on the face
- Pain in the ear
- Slurred speech
- Loose teeth
- Unintended weight loss
If you are concerned about an abnormality, it is important to go to an ear, nose, and throat specialist for a complete examination. If detected early, head and neck cancers are highly treatable and the cure rate is good.
