About Hope's BoutiqueShopping. A relaxing afternoon with a close friend or two,
wholly devoted to rethinking, renewing and rewarding you.

Hope’s Boutique is a support service from The Ohio State University – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute, benefiting central Ohio cancer patients and cancer survivors, their friends and families.

When breast cancer patients walk into Hope’s Boutique, shop founder Wendy Avner knows exactly how to help them. She has been in their shoes before – twice.

Avner was diagnosed in 1994 with breast cancer and 10 months later with ovarian cancer.

As Avner herself underwent the chemotherapies, surgeries and rehabilitations, she was frustrated by the lack of availability of fashionable products such as post-mastectomy bras, attractive wigs or soft hats to cover a bald head.

She decided as she recovered that she was going to change things. Avner got to work on a one-stop shop that would carry all of the best of the products she had so much trouble seeking out.

So to customers seeking soft caps as they lose their hair or lotions for radiation-burnt skin, Avner, a nine-year cancer survivor, is not only an expert on their needs, she’s a symbol of hope.

The shop opened its doors on Oct. 19, 1998, within the Stoneridge Medical Complex in Dublin. Hope’s Boutique is a non-profit corporation owned by the OSU Comprehensive Cancer Center/James. All of the shop’s profits go to the Hope Fund to give financially disadvantaged women access to prostheses, wigs, garments and other care products.

Here are some of the items available to you at Hope’s Boutique:

  • Private personal-image consultation
  • Professionally fitted breast prosthetics and foundations
  • Skin care products and cosmetics
  • Hair alternatives, including full and partial hair pieces, head wraps, wigs and scarves
  • Compression sleeves and post-surgical aids
  • Sleepwear, swimwear and lingerie

JamesCare in Dublin

The mission of Hope’s Boutique is in keeping with the breast health philosophy of the OSU Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute, which is to help women stay well.

That’s also why we opened JamesCare in Dublin in 1997, a comprehensive breast health center where women can come not only for regular clinical breast exams and mammograms, but also for all breast cancer diagnostic services, medical expertise, counseling and follow-up care.

JamesCare in Dublin is directly adjacent to Hope’s Boutique, giving central Ohio women a tangible and emotional bridge between life battling breast cancer and life beyond breast cancer.
